How to Install ActiveMQ as a Service on 64 bit Windows

Follow this guy's instructions for installing it with procrun.

Helpful notes

  • I did this successfully on Windows 7 64bit/x64.
  • KEY POINT: In the linked article he links to the Commons Daemon native binaries. But the trick is not to download the commons-daemon-x-bin.zip you find there because that isn't actually the native library! Rather click "Browse native binaries" -> "Windows" and you get to the real Windows native binaries download area!
  • After that his instructions are good, the only thing is that he lists a million options for the ActiveMQ service and they aren't really necessary. Just read them and if you think you don't need one you can leave it out.
